“Concerning the Unmarried”

1 Corinthians 7:25-40

Now about virgins: I have no command from the Lord, but I give a judgment as one who by the Lord’s mercy is trustworthy.  Because of the present crisis, I think that it is good for a man to remain as he is.  Are you pledged to a woman? Do not seek to be released. Are you free from such a commitment? Do not look for a wife.   But if you do marry, you have not sinned; and if a virgin marries, she has not sinned. But those who marry will face many troubles in this life, and I want to spare you this.

What I mean, brothers and sisters, is that the time is short. From now on those who have wives should live as if they do not; those who mourn, as if they did not; those who are happy, as if they were not; those who buy something, as if it were not theirs to keep;  those who use the things of the world, as if not engrossed in them. For this world in its present form is passing away.

I would like you to be free from concern. An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord’s affairs—how he can please the Lord.  But a married man is concerned about the affairs of this world—how he can please his wife—  and his interests are divided. An unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the Lord’s affairs: Her aim is to be devoted to the Lord in both body and spirit. But a married woman is concerned about the affairs of this world—how she can please her husband.   I am saying this for your own good, not to restrict you, but that you may live in a right way in undivided devotion to the Lord.

If anyone is worried that he might not be acting honorably toward the virgin he is engaged to, and if his passions are too strong and he feels he ought to marry, he should do as he wants. He is not sinning. They should get married.  But the man who has settled the matter in his own mind, who is under no compulsion but has control over his own will, and who has made up his mind not to marry the virgin—this man also does the right thing.   So then, he who marries the virgin does right, but he who does not marry her does better.

A woman is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to marry anyone she wishes, but he must belong to the Lord.  In my judgment, she is happier if she stays as she is—and I think that I too have the Spirit of God.

“Concerning Change of Status”

Corinthians 7:17-24

Nevertheless, each person should live as a believer in whatever situation the Lord has assigned to them, just as God has called them. This is the rule I lay down in all the churches.  Was a man already circumcised when he was called? He should not become uncircumcised. Was a man uncircumcised when he was called? He should not be circumcised.   Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing. Keeping God’s commands is what counts.  Each person should remain in the situation they were in when God called them.

Were you a slave when you were called? Don’t let it trouble you—although if you can gain your freedom, do so. For the one who was a slave when called to faith in the Lord is the Lord’s freed person; similarly, the one who was free when called is Christ’s slave.  You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of human beings.  Brothers and sisters, each person, as responsible to God, should remain in the situation they were in when God called them.

“Concerning Married Life”

1 Corinthians 7:1-16

Now for the matters you wrote about: “It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.”   But since sexual immorality is occurring, each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband. The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband.  The wife does not have authority over her own body but yields it to her husband. In the same way, the husband does not have authority over his own body but yields it to his wife. Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.  I say this as a concession, not as a command. I wish that all of you were as I am. But each of you has your own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that.

Now to the unmarried and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I do.  But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion.

To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband.  But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife.

To the rest I say this (I, not the Lord): If any brother has a wife who is not a believer and she is willing to live with him, he must not divorce her.  And if a woman has a husband who is not a believer and he is willing to live with her, she must not divorce him.   For the unbelieving husband has been sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife has been sanctified through her believing husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy.

But if the unbeliever leaves, let it be so. The brother or the sister is not bound in such circumstances; God has called us to live in peace.  How do you know, wife, whether you will save your husband? Or, how do you know, husband, whether you will save your wife?

“CHANGE”

When you decide to make a change from your old ways you have to make sure that you truly detox yourself from those things. That detoxing is done by removing yourself from people, places, and or things. You will need to repent of those old ways, study the word, pray, seek GOD and have much patience.

However as long as you lean on GOD he will see you through your change. Don’t be discouraged as that change may not come as fast as you would like but make sure that you pray for that patience as it will come.

Write a plan of action that you would like to take to make this change successful. Remember GOD’s servant’s needs to have that plan in order to succeed. By not planning you will not succeed as well if you plan, I am not saying you will not succeed I am just saying you will succeed mightily if you have a plan of action.

As you go about your change make sure you surround yourself with like minded people that are on that same path that you are on. You do not want to be with those that want to be stuck in those old ways. Surround yourself with positive people.
As you take this journey to change make a stride each day to reach a goal on that list. One day at a time doing it right according to GOD will get you there with a very positive CHANGE.

In all positive things you are trying to do to advance you, you should have an accountability partner. This person will help you to stay on track to achieve that change that you are making in your life. If you feel as though it is not coming start at the beginning to see what you may have done that got you off track and get busy. You must at all times doing this process of change, pray. Praying will help you through it no matter what.

Read and meditate on the bible verses below on change.

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Proverbs 18:15 An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.

Proverbs 19:2 Desire without knowledge is not good, and whoever makes haste with his feet misses his way.

James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.

Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”

Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Romans 12:1-2 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Life brings about a lot however we cannot just keep staying stuck in the same place doing the same thing and wondering why things are not changing for me. They are not going to change unless you make some changes.

“TRUST”

TRUST is simply a belief that someone or something is good, sincere or honest and won’t hurt you nor will they trick you. You can’t go through life without trust as you need that in all that you do in life.

If you have issues with trusting then you will need to seek GOD on how you can be delivered from that and know that this is something that you need in your life at all times.

PRAY, READ, and MEDITATE on the word. See scripture below on trust.

Deuteronomy 1:30-33 “The LORD your God, who is going before you, will fight for you, as he did for you in Egypt, before your very eyes, and in the desert. There you saw how the LORD your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place.” In spite of this, you did not trust in the LORD your God, who went ahead of you on your journey, in fire by night and in a cloud by day, to search out places for you to camp and to show you the way you should go.”

2 Samuel 7:28 “O Sovereign LORD, you are God! Your words are trustworthy, and you have promised these good things to your servant.”

Psalm 9:10 “Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.”

Psalm 13:5 “But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.”

Psalm 25:1-3 “To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul; in you I trust, O my God. Do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me. No one whose hope is in you will ever be put to shame, but they will be put to shame who are treacherous without excuse.”

Psalm 28:7 “The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song.”

Psalm 31:14 “14 But I trust in you, O LORD; I say, “You are my God.”

Psalm 37:3 “Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.”
